Cox Homelife - Manage Scenes with Devices

1. Introduction

This guide will provide you with instructions on How to Manage Scenes with Cox Homelife. There are two types of Homelife automation, namely Rules, and Scenes.

  • Rules are flexible methods of generating a variety of system actions or notifications when predefined circumstances or triggers occur
  • Scenes let you control multiple devices at once but must be manually activated

2. Create and edit scene

The following changes are specific to the current device. Other users on the same account do not see the changes. 

The customer needs to follow the below steps to create a scene for controlling the Cox Homelife smart devices.

1. The customer needs to enter their credentials and Sign in to the Cox Homelife mobile app.

   

2. From the Overview screen, the customer needs to tap the Automation menu.

3. From the Automation screen, the customer needs to tap the Create Scene button or the (+) icon.

On the New Automation screen, a list of ideas will be displayed to get the customer started.

4. To create a new Scene, the customer needs to tap Create Custom.

5. The screens will walk the customer through each step to setup a new scene. As an example, the customer can follow the below steps to set up a Bedtime Scene.

        a. From the My Scene screen, the customer needs to tap Add Device to begin adding the devices and their functionality. 

        b. For the Bedtime Scene, the customer can select the following devices and actions

  • Lights - turns off the lights and smart plugs 
  • Thermostat - adjusts the temperature  
  • Door Locks - locks the doors  
  • System - sets the alarm to Night 

         c. After the customer selects all of the devices and actions, they need to tap Save.

6. To create a name and icon for the Bedtime Scene, the customer needs to complete the following steps

  • The customer needs to tap the blue pencil / edit icon next to My Scene 
  • From the Edit Scene Details screen, in the Scene name field, the customer needs to enter Bedtime 
  • In the Select an icon section, the customer needs to tap on the icon they would like to use for their Bedtime Scene 
  • The customer needs to tap Save     

7. From the Bedtime Scene screen, the customer needs to tap Save.

8. To activate the Bedtime Scene, the customer needs to complete the following steps

  • They need to tap on the Automation menu 
  • From the Automation screen, they need to tap the Bedtime icon 
  • A checkmark displays over the icon to indicate the scene has started  

 > If the customer is attempting to rearrange My Scenes on the Overview screen, they can refer below.

Reordering My Scenes in the Cox Homelife App. 

1. The customer needs to enter their credentials and Sign in to the Cox Homelife mobile app.

 

2. On the Overview screen, from My Scenes tile, they need to tap View All.  

3. On the My Scenes screen, from the top of the display, they need to tap Reorder and then drag the scene tiles to rearrange the order they display on the Overview screen.

Scenes cannot be manually deactivated. Each Scene runs until another Scene is activated, a Rule is triggered, or the devices that are active in the Scene are manually adjusted.

 

To edit a Scene, the customer needs to complete the following steps:-

1. The customer needs to enter their credentials and Sign in to the Cox Homelife mobile app.

2. From the Overview screen, they need to tap the Automation menu.

3. From the Automation screen, in the My Scenes section, they need to locate the Bedtime Scene icon.

 

       

4. Then they need to tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the Scene icon.


5. From the Bedtime Scene screen, they need to edit the actions they would like to change or tap Remove from Scene to remove the action from the Scene and then tap Save.
