IKEA Tradfri light bulbs are Zigbee compatible which means they can be connected to other branded smart home hubs that are also Zigbee compatible. The Echo Plus hub is one of them and this guide will show you how to add an IKEA Tradfri light bulb to it.
To complete the following steps, you will need both your IKEA Tradfri light bulb and Echo Plus in close proximity of each other.
You can set up multiple light bulbs at the same but they all need to be within close proximity of the Echo Plus.
Prepare the Light Bulb for Setup
For easier setup, install the light bulb in an easy to move lamp first. Once it has been connected to your Echo Plus, the light bulb can be relocated into the fixture you prefer.
Make sure your lamp is turned off.
Remove the existing light bulb.
Install the IKEA Tradfri light bulb.If the light bulb was already linked with a smart home system before, you will need to reset it by turning the light on and off six times in a row.
Place the light bulb within an inch of the Echo Plus.
Switch over to your phone or tablet.Only turn your lamp on after you start discovering devices with the Alexa app.
Add the Light Bulb to Echo Plus
Launch the Alexa app on your phone or tablet.
Go to Devices in the bottom right.
Tap the plus sign in the top right to add a new device.
Select Add Device from the pop-up menu.
Select Light from the device list.
Tap Discover Devices to continue.
Turn on your light bulb and wait for it to be discovered.
Once your light bulb is discovered, tap Set Up Device.
Tap Choose Group.
Choose the room where your bulb is located in then tap Add to Group.
Tap Done to complete the light bulb's setup in the Alexa app.
