2. Factory Reset
Depending on which generation of Fire Tablet (Kindle Fire) you have, the menu theme and options might look slightly different on your screen. Below are the steps for the 4th generation devices and onward.
There are two ways to reset your Amazon Fire tablet to factory defaults:
To Reset via Device Settings
Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Settings.
Tap Device Options.
Tap Reset to Factory Defaults.
Tap Reset to confirm.
Your device should reboot and may show a progress screen indicating that it is erasing data. After it finishes deleting the data on the device, the operating system will restart and will arrive at the same screen as when you first unpacked it from the box.Keep in mind that the Factory Reset can take some time.
To Reset via Recovery Menu
In order to hard reset your Amazon Fire, you will need to enter system recovery mode by pressing a combination of buttons on the device.
Turn off your Amazon Fire tablet completely.
Press and hold the Volume Up + Power buttons until you see the Amazon logo on the screen.
Press the Volume Up and Down keys to navigate through the options in the system recovery menu as the touch screen will not be active.
Select Wipe Data / Factory Reset and press the Power button.
Select Yes - Delete All User Data and press the Power button.
This will reset the device to its original state, removing all your data. If your device freezes, hold the power button down to restart it.
