How to Fix Apps on a Nintendo Wii U

1. Introduction

This guide will help you resolve issues involving apps on your Nintendo Wii U.

2. Restart

  1. Press and hold the Power Button on the front of the device until the Wii U powers off.

  1. If your Wii U does not power off, unplug the power cable from the wall outlet, wait 15 seconds, then plug it back in.

3. Wii U

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings.

  1. Using the Left Stick, select the Internet icon and press the A Button.

  1. Press the X Button or tap Connections located in the top-right corner.

  1. Select Connection Test.

  1. When connection test is complete, click OK.

4. Delete Console Data

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings.

  1. Using the Left Stick, scroll to the Data Management and press the A Button.

  1. Select Copy / Move / Delete Data.
  2. Select the location of the data you wish to delete.
  3. Select the application that has the data you wish to delete and press the A Button.
  4. Select what you wish to delete from within the application data and press the A Button.
    If you wish to delete multiple items, press the Y Button to select multiple items, select the items you wish to delete, and then press the X Button. Items selected for deletion will be marked with a white checkmark on a red background.
  5. Once an individual application item is chosen, select Delete and press the A Button.

8. Delete Game or App

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings.

  1. Select Copy / Move / Delete Data.

  1. Select the location of the data you wish to delete. Update data and save data are located in each game's folder, but not all games will have update data.

  1. Select the application that has the data you wish to delete and press the A Button.

  1. Select what you wish to delete from within the application data and press the A Button.

  1. If you wish to delete multiple items, press the Y Button to select multiple items, select the items you wish to delete, and then press the X Button. Items selected for deletion will be marked with a white checkmark on a red background.

  2. Once an individual application item is chosen, select Delete and press the A Button.
  3. You can delete a downloaded game without deleting the save data. If you play the game in the future, either downloaded or on a disc, this save data will still be usable.

9. Reinstall Game or Application

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select the Nintendo eShop icon and tap Open.

  1. Select My Menu or press the Y Button.

  1. Select Your Downloads and the type of content being redownloaded (Software or Content).
  2. Select Downloaded Software or Downloaded Content.
  3. Scroll through the list of titles, and select Download next to the title you wish to redownload.
  4. If the "Download" option is not visible, this indicates the software is already installed on your Wii U console. Installed software can be found on the Wii U Menu.
  5. If the selected content has a rating, it will be displayed on the screen. Select "Next" to continue.

  6. Select Download.
  7. Select Next.
  8. Select Download again.
  9. The download will begin automatically. Select "Continue" to return to the Nintendo eShop Menu.
