PlayStation 3 allows you to install both applications and games from the store or a disc. Sometimes the install doesn't go as planned, so we’re going to show you how to fix that.
What you need before you start:
Internet connection to your console.
PlayStation equipment and game disc should be in good working order.
PlayStation Network (PSN) account.
2. Check Game Disc
Checking the Game Disc
Eject the disc and make sure it is not dirty, scratched or damaged.
Ensure you are using the correct disc for this console.
Insert another disc to see if it works.
If another disc can be read, the disc you are trying to use may be dirty or faulty.
If no other disc can be read, there may be a hardware issue with the console.
3. Install Game From Disc
Please note you will still need the CD to play the game. This will copy the required game data to your disk drive.
Go to the Game Menu and select the CD from the menu.
Follow the on-screen instruction for the game you are installing.
4. Check Free Space
Go to Settings.
Go to System Settings.
Go to System Information.
This page shows the free space on your hard drive.
5. Hard Drive Cleanup
This will only remove the Game Data from the system. You will not lose any in-game progress.
Goto the Games Menu and select Game Data Utility.
Select a Game that you wish to remove game data for.
Select Delete.
Select Yes to delete game data.
6. Install Game From Disc
Please note you will still need the CD to play the game. This will copy the required game data to your disk drive.
Go to the Game Menu and select the CD from the menu.
Follow the on-screen instruction for the game you are installing.
7. Enter Safe Mode
Safe Mode allows you to start the system with the most basic functions only. The Safe Mode menu options may help you correct issues and allow your PlayStation 3 to start normally.
Connect the DualShock controller with the USB cable.
Power down the Playstation.
Hold the power button on the console until it beeps 3 times and shuts off (Approximately 10 seconds).
Press and hold the power button again until you hear 4 beeps (Approximately 7 seconds) the last 2 will be in close succession.
If successful, the system will boot to Safe Mode. Try again if you didn't get it the first time. When prompted hit the PS button on your controller.
8. Rebuild Database
If you rebuild the database, you will lose messages, playlists, music, videos and certain system settings. You will not lose your game progress or trophies.
From Safe Mode select Rebuild Database.
9. Install Game From Disc

To test your Internet connection, follow these steps:
Select Settings.
Select Network Settings.
Select Internet Connection Test.
12. Check PSN Status
Check PSN status by going to this link: https://status.playstation.com
The page will show if the service is down, as well as the status of your account.
13. Try Again Later When Services Are Online
Try again later when the services are back up.
14. Check Free Space
Go to Settings.
Go to System Settings.
Go to System Information.
This page shows the free space on your hard drive.

21. Connect to Internet
Go to Settings and select Network Settings.
Select Internet Connection Settings.
Select Ok.
Select Easy.
Select Wireless.
Select Scan.
Select your network from the list.
Take note of the Security listed on this screen. We will need this in a moment.
Hit the right button on the D-Pad to confirm your selected network.
Select the type of security your network uses. Most common is WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK
Unless you're on an unsecured network (not recommended) hit X to enter in your Security Key
Enter your security key and select Enter when done.
Press the right button on your D-Pad to confirm your security key.
Hit the X button on your controller to confirm settings.
To connect via an Ethernet cable, follow these steps.
Go to Settings and select Network Settings.
Select Internet Connection Settings.
Select Ok.
Select Easy.
Select Wired Connection.
When asked about using a proxy server, select Do Not Use unless you are behind a proxy server.
Press X on the controller to save your settings.
