How to Fix Sound Issues on a PlayStation 3

2. HDMI Auto-detect

To make the PlayStation 3 auto-detect the HDMI connection:

  1. Turn the PS3 off.
  2. Hold the power button down and wait for the PS3 to beep twice, then let go of the power button.
  3. Hold the power button again, and wait for it to beep three times, now let go.
  4. Hold the power button another time, again wait for it to beep three times and let go.
  5. PlayStation 3 should start then ask if you want to output audio and video using HDMI, select Yes.

4. Headset Issue Fix

Make sure that the proper connections are selected from the PlayStation 3 Settings:

  1. Go to

  2. Scroll down and select Sound Settings.

  1. Select Audio Output Settings.
  2. On the next screen, Select Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI.

  1. Press the X button to save the settings.
  2. Once back on the Sound Settings page, select Audio Multi-Output.
  3. Select On
  4. Exit the Settings screen and open a game or app to test your audio

5. Test

Connect your headset to a different audio source to test if it is working properly.

6. Replace Headset

It appears that your headset is not functioning properly. It may need to be replaced or repaired.
