How to Pair a GoPro HERO9 with the GoPro App

1. Introduction

Setting up your GoPro Hero9 Black Camera is quick and easy. This guide will take you through the process of getting your new GoPro Hero9 Black camera paired with the GoPro App so you can begin using it as intended.

Be sure you have all of the contents contained within the packaging of your new GoPro Session camera, as the documentation and supplied USB cable may be needed during this process.

2. Enable Bluetooth

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  1. Tap the Bluetooth icon to enable it.

3. Check Wi-Fi

Depending on what device (Smartphone or Tablet) and which generation you have, the menu theme and options might look slightly different on your screen. However, the steps should be similar across all Android devices and generations.

To Check If Your Android Mobile Device Is Connected to Wi-Fi

  1. Open Settings on your phone or tablet.
  1. Select Wi-Fi.
  1. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned On. The Wi-Fi network that you are connected to will say Connected under its name.

4. Install Android App

  1. Open Play Store.

  2. Type "GoPro" in the search bar and select GoPro (formerly Capture).

  2. Tap Install to start downloading the app.

  2. Once installed, tap Open to proceed to the setup.

5. Pair With App

1. Locate the Power/Mode button on the side of the camera and press it to turn it on.

2. Next Pair the GoPro to the cellphone.

3. Now choose a name for the GoPro and Save New Name.

4. Now click on Continue to install the updates.

5. n your smartphone, go into Settings, then Wi-Fi. Look for and tap on the Wi-Fi network name indicated on the camera screen.

6. Once the Bluetooth pairing is established, your smartphone will reconnect to the default Wi-Fi network and check for software updates. Tap on Update to continue.

7. Tap on Accept & Continue to agree with the Firmware License.

8. Then it will transfer the update to the camera. You'll notice the camera reboot a few times.

9. The smartphone will download the software update. Tap on Continue when it completed.

10. You'll be notified when the setup is compete. Tap on Done and you're all set.

6. Enable Bluetooth

  1. Open Settings.
  1. Select Bluetooth.
  1. Ensure that the Bluetooth toggle is in the On position.

7. Check Wi-Fi

Depending on what device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) and which generation you have, the menu theme and options might look slightly different on your screen. However, the steps should be the same across all iOS devices and generations.

To Check If Your iOS Mobile Device Is Connected to Wi-Fi

  1. From the main screen of your device, look for and open Settings.
  1. With Settings open, look for the Wi-Fi field. This field will display the current Wi-Fi status on the right hand side:
  2. Off - the Wi-Fi antenna is currently disabled.
  3. Not Connected - Wi-Fi is turned on, but your device is not currently connected to a network.
  4. Wi-Fi network name - Wi-Fi is turned on, and the network name displayed is the network your device is currently connected to.
  1. You can also tap on the Wi-Fi field and make sure the Wi-Fi switch is in the On position. The switch should be green in color and will display the network that you are currently connected to directly beneath it with a check mark to the left.

8. Install iOS App

  1. Open the App Store.

  2. Type in "GoPro" in the search bar.
  3. Find GoPro in the search results and tap on GET.

9. Pair With App

1. Locate the Power/Mode button on the side of the camera and press it to turn it on.

2. On the touchscreen, swipe through the languages and select your preference then tap on the checkmark on the top right corner.

3. To continue, you have to Agree with the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

4. Choose whether you want the GPS feature to be turned On or left Off.

5. Next Pair the GoPro to the cellphone.

6. Now choose a name for the GoPro and Save New Name.

7. Now click on Continue to install the updates.

8.On your smartphone, go into Settings, then Wi-Fi. Look for and tap on the Wi-Fi network name indicated on the camera screen.

9. Once the Bluetooth pairing is established, your smartphone will reconnect to the default Wi-Fi network and check for software updates. Tap on Update to continue.

10. Tap on Accept & Continue to agree with the Firmware License.

11. Then it will transfer the update to the camera. You'll notice the camera reboot a few times.

12. The smartphone will download the software update. Tap on Continue when it completed.

13. You'll be notified when the setup is compete. Tap on Lets Go and you're all set.
