Find the most optimal location for your range extender.
Before We Begin:
Have your smartphone or tablet nearby.
Know your current Wi-Fi Network Name and Password.
2. Plug In
You want you extender to be about six feet away from your router.
Plug in your extender.
Wait till the Network light is flashing slowly. This indicates the extender is ready to setup.
3. OS Choice
To continue, we need to know what Operating System your smartphone or tablet has.
There are 2 main Operating Systems for smartphones currently available, Android and iOS.
Android SmartphoneiOS SmartphoneAndroid smartphones are produced by multiple companies, such as Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, and OnePlus.Apple is the only company that makes iOS smartphones.
4. Install
Launch the Play Store on your smartphone.
Select the search bar at the top.
Type in Asus Extender, then select Asus Extender from the list.
Select Install.
This app requires special permissions, listed here. Select Accept.
5. Connect to Wi-Fi (Android)
Depending on your exact device (Smartphone or Tablet), and which generation you have, the menu theme and options might look slightly different on your screen. However, the steps should be similar across all Android devices and generations.
Open Settings.
Select Wi-Fi.
Select the ASUS_RPAC55 from the list.
The network is unsecured; this is normal. You will be using it to set up the device only. After, you will be using the device over a secured wireless connection.
6. Setup Using App
Open the Asus Extender app if it's not already open.
When you first run the app, you will be asked to accept the ASUS Privacy Policy and the ASUS Terms of Use. After reading these documents carefully, select Accept to continue.
On the welcome screen, select Set up extender.
The app will detect you're already on the extender's Wi-Fi connection. Select the arrow to continue.
You'll be asked to choose where your extender will be located once the setup process has been completed. This is just for labeling purposes and will help you easily identify your extender later if you decide to add another one. Select which room your extender will be placed in.
Your extender should automatically pick up your "home" network, the one being sent by your router, automatically. It uses the strength of the signal as well as settings already saved on your smartphone or tablet to make the best possible guess.
If the app is unable to identify your home network, you will be prompted to choose it from a list, and possibly prompted for the password.
The app will automatically assign names to the Wi-Fi network the range extender provides, and sets the password for them to be the same as your main Wi-Fi password. Select Next to continue.
Make note of these Wi-Fi network names! You will need them to connect your farther-away devices to Wi-Fi using the extender's provided network!
Your network range extender is all setup!
7. Location
Finding the most optimal location for your Range Extender in your home is important for both maximizing your signal range and wireless coverage. Your Range Extender has a built-in meter to help you determine where this might be.
Move Closer
If the left of the two lights is on, that indicates you need to move the Range Extender closer to your router, so it gets a better signal.
Good Location
When no lights are on for the range indicator, your Range Extender is in a good location.
Move Away
If the right of the two lights is on, that indicates that you need to move the Range Extender farther away from your router, to avoid an overlap of signal that could cause problems.
You can move your Range Extender from outlet to outlet using the meter depicted above as a guide for selecting locations that will provide the best wireless performance in your home.
In general, you want your Range Extender at least six feet away from your router. At most, you want it half-way between where your router is, and where you want the signal to reach. Finding and testing multiple locations may be necessary if wireless interference is a factor within your home.
