How to Set Up Boot Camp on a MacBook

1. Introduction

Boot camp allows you to run both macOS and Windows on your Apple computer. This will allow you to use programs that may only be available on Windows.

2. Prerequisites

To see what versions of Windows is supported by your mac, go to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204048 in a web browser.

Things you will need before starting

  • Windows Install Media

Before running the Boot Camp Assistant, it is suggested to backup your system to prevent data loss.

4. Setup

  1. Open Spotlight.

  1. Type in Boot Camp Assistant and click Boot Camp Assistant in the search results.

  1. Press Continue.

  1. Click Choose to pick your CD/ISO media.

  1. Select your media you are using to install Windows.
  2. Use the slider to change how large you would like your Windows partition to be.

  1. It is recommended to use 40 GB for the windows partition for a base install. If you plan on installing any large applications or games, you may want to make it larger.

6. Post Windows Install Setup

Once Windows is installed you will be prompted to run the Boot Camp Installer.

  1. Press Next.

7. Switching Between OS

  1. Restart the computer in whichever operating system you are in.
  2. Hold the Option key down when your mac restarts.
