Peripherals, also called accessories, are devices that can be connected your tablet to expand its functionality beyond its basic operation. Some of the most common types of peripherals are:
The Surface Pro tablet has a mini-DisplayPort on the side of the device.
You can purchase a mini-DisplayPort adapter to connect any type of display you may have.
Check your display to be sure, but many displays can accept an HDMI input.
The Surface Pro has a standard audio mini-jack on the top left side. Connect your headset or speakers here.
USB is the most common type of connector used to attach peripherals to computers. Whether you have a wired or wireless peripheral, chances are they use this type of connector.
The majority are Plug and Play which means they will be recognized by Windows as soon as you plug them into the tablet and you can use them right away. Others might require software or drivers to be installed on the tablet before plugging them in.
The requirement to install software or drivers varies by manufacturer and device model. Refer to your peripherals documentation to find out if this is necessary.
Because the Surface Pro does not have a CD drive, you will need to visit the website of the USB device manufacturer, and download and install the driver from there.
Look at the user manual that came with your USB device. A website should be listed to download the driver.
If Windows does not detect the device when plugged back in, plug the device into a different USB port to see if Windows is able to recognize it.
