There are several things to know before beginning set up of your new Motorola MG7540 cable Modem/Router combo:

1) You MUST have existing internet service to use this device - attaching this product to an existing cable line will not allow you access the internet without subscribing to an Internet Service Provider (ISP)

2) Please make sure that the cable line you are attaching to this modem has been initialized to carry internet signal by your ISP - you may need to call them to be sure or simply try the existing lines until the mdoem indicates it has a signal

3) Please make sure everything listed below came in the box:

4) You may need to purchase an additional coaxial cable as this unit does not include one in the box. You can find them here.

For the best/fastest signal and the most secure connection, it is recommended to directly connect to the modem via ethernet whenever possible.

To create a wired connection, you will need to connect your ethernet cable to your existing PC or Mac desktop computer. An ethernet cable came with your modem/router combo and should look something like this:

Connect one end into the back panel of your modem where indicated. If done correctly, you should see the green link light LED light up and begin blinking. The ethernet ports look like this:

Next, connect the other end of your ethernet cable to the ethernet port on your PC or Mac desktop computer. Once again, when connected to the computer properly a green LED next to the ethernet port will light up and begin blinking. Give the computer up to 3 minutes to recognize the internet signal, then browse the internet at your leisure!
