Authored by: Support.com Tech Pro Team

1. Introduction

This guide will help you how to setup Roomba to iRobot HOME App

2. App

Download the iRobot® HOME App onto your mobile device. If you already have the iRobot home app, we encourage you to visit the store to ensure you are running the latest version of the app.

  • iOS: Compatible with Operating Systems 13 and higher
  • Android: Compatible with Operating Systems 7.0 and higher

3. Setup

Step 1 - Setup

Place the Home Base Charging Station or Clean Base on a level surface that is free of obstacles in a location that has good Wi-Fi coverage, and then connect it to power. There should be a small white light from the base

To prevent the risk of your robot falling downstairs, ensure that the charging station is placed at least 4 ft (1.2 m) away from the

stairs.

  1. If your robot has one, remove the yellow battery pull tab and the yellow bin insert
  1. Place the robot on the base and ensure it is powered on. The light ring will light up white and swirl and after a few moments, the robot will make a tone to let you know it is awake
  1. Put your phone or device on the network you wish to operate the robot with. This is important for the setup process. *This can be changed later
  1. Ensure your internet is currently working. You can do this by opening an internet browser and clicking a link or searching something on google

Some robot models do not support 5GHz connectivity, and you may need to connect to your 2.4GHz network instead. Some robot models cannot connect to wifi at all. Please see the owner's guide for more detail

Step 2 – Verify Bluetooth is Turned ON

Where possible, iRobot® uses Bluetooth to set up and connect your robot to your device. If Bluetooth is NOT turned on, the iRobot® HOME App will ask you to turn it on for the set-up process.

You may see a request for location services. This is a security feature employed while using Bluetooth and is only enabled so that your mobile phone can safely detect Bluetooth robots near you during the set-up process

Step 3 â€“ Name Your Robot

“Roomba” is preloaded, but you can give your Roomba® a personal name. Name it whatever you want!

Type a name and press “Continue”

Step 4 - Connect Roomba® to Your Wi-Fi

The iRobot® HOME App will display the name of the Wi-Fi network to that the mobile device is currently connected. Confirm this is the network you would like to use.

  1. Enter your Wi-Fi network password.
  1. If no password is required, check the box on the screen and press “Continue”

If you receive a message at the end of the setup process that indicates an incorrect password, be sure that you have entered your Wi-Fi network password correctly

Networks can be changed later, but your phone and robot should be using the same network for setup:

iOS: To set up Roomba® on a different network with an iOS device, select the Wi-Fi network in the iRobot® HOME App and change the network in the settings of the mobile device.

Android: To set up Roomba® on a different network with an Android device, press “Change Wi-Fi network” and choose the network you would like to connect to from the menu

Step 5 - Activate Roomba®

This step turns on Roomba®’s internal Wi-Fi network so that your device can locate the robot.

This step is not required for Roomba j7, as it automatically does this step when turned on initially

The robot and app will take you through these steps:

  1. With the robot on its base, press and hold  the Home and  SPOT Clean buttons simultaneously until you hear a tone (about 2-5 seconds).
  2. Some robots show a flashing green  Wi-Fi icon
  3. Some robots show a flashing blue light ring
  1. Confirm the step in the app. Check the box that says, "I pressed the buttons" and press continue.

From here, your device should locate the robot and you’ll now be able to adjust and control it through the iRobot® HOME App
