How to troubleshoot Snapchat Spectacles 2
Spectacles Storage
Spectacles 2 (Nico, Veronica, Original) can hold up to 150 video Snaps or 3,000 photo Snaps at a time. Try to import Snaps as often as you can to avoid running out of storage space on your Spectacles! After Snaps are imported into Memories and backed up by Snapchat, Spectacles’ storage will clear them to make space for new Snaps.
If your Spectacles are out of storage space, then the LED on the inside will blink red when you try to take a Snap. A red LED means there’s an issue with your Spectacles that’s not letting you capture a Snap. Take your Spectacles off, face them towards you, and press the button again.
If you’d rather not import and backup existing Snaps, you can clear your Spectacles’ storage in Settings.
Here’s how to clear Spectacles storage:
Spectacles LED Messages
Spectacles 2 (Nico, Veronica, Original) will let you know when they encounter an error by lighting up the inner red LED. When you see it, take your Spectacles off and face them towards you. Press the button again and look at the ring of outer LEDs.
Low Battery is the most common error you may encounter. A single bottom LED will blink 3 times. Charge your Spectacles as soon as you’re able so you can capture more Snaps.
No Storage Space can occur if Snaps are not imported regularly. Five LEDs will blink 3 times. Your Spectacles can hold up to 150 videos or 3,000 photos at a time. Import Snaps as often as you can so you don’t run into this issue!
Low Temperature / High Temperature may occur if your Spectacles are exposed to extreme temperatures. Two horizontal LEDs will blink 3 times. Allow your Spectacles to return to room temperature before taking any more Snaps.
Software Updates can occur after you initiate an update. Three LEDs will blink in a triangle formation and rotate. Individual LEDs will begin to light up as the update progresses. Wait until the update completes before attempting to take a Snap again. You’ll be notified when the LEDs flash once. Learn more about Software Updates.
Software Errors may occur on occasion if your Spectacles encounter an error. Four LEDs will blink 3 times. Try waiting a few seconds before trying to take a Snap. If you continue to see this message, try Hard Resetting your Spectacles.
Prolonged exposure to water may cause additional damage to your Spectacles. Learn more about Spectacles' Water Resistance.
Backing Up
Snaps taken with Spectacles are imported to Memories in Snapchat and are sorted into Day Stories based on when they were taken. Once in Memories, Snaps can begin to back up to Snapchat once your phone is connected to Wi-Fi.
If you happen to be out of range from a Wi-Fi network, you can enable Smart Backup. Smart Backup lets Memories back up using your cellular data under certain conditions. Learn more about Memories Settings.
By default, Spectacles won’t clear a Snap from its storage until that Snap is imported and backed up to Memories.
If your Spectacles are running low on storage space, try importing all your available Snaps to Memories. To do this: open Snapchat, swipe up to Memories and tap on the 🔠button to start importing.
While Memories are backing up, be sure not to log out of Snapchat, log in through another device, or uninstall Snapchat. Doing so could cause you to lose any Snaps you haven’t backed up yet!
Deleting Snaps or Stories from Memories will remove them completely. Be careful what you delete, since there’s no way to recover Snaps once they’ve been deleted.
Restart Spectacles with a Power Cycle
If you’re experiencing issues with importing Snaps, charging your Spectacles, or are running into an error, try giving your Spectacles a Power Cycle! It won’t delete any Snaps or unpair your Spectacles, so it’s no sweat.
Here’s how to perform a Power Cycle:
Hard Reset of Spectacles
A Hard Reset is the last troubleshooting option available. Although it does not delete Snaps from your Spectacles storage, it should still only be performed as a last resort — since you’ll need to repair your Spectacles to your phone from scratch.
Please read all about Charging Spectacles, Spectacles Errors, and Power cycles before attempting to Hard Reset your Spectacles.
Here’s how to Hard Reset your Spectacles:
If your Hard Reset is successful, three LEDs on the outside should appear in a triangle formation. The LEDs will begin to rotate clockwise. Additional LEDs will light up clockwise to represent the resetting progress. Once complete, all LEDs should flash once.
If the LEDs aren’t appearing as mentioned above, please wait ten seconds before retrying. If no LEDs appear, try charging your Spectacles for at least 20 minutes. Be sure to remove your Spectacles from the Charging Case or unplug the Cable before attempting a Hard Reset again!
