If you're unable to pair your ecobee Room Sensor to your ecobee Thermostat, there are a few things you can try to fix the issue. This guide will take you through all the steps you can try on your own before requesting assistance from ecobee support. You need to make sure your thermostat is updated and running on the latest firmware and the room sensor has a good battery. After that you can attempt re-pairing the room sensor with the thermostat.
What You'll Need:
No extra tools or supplies are needed.

Before You Begin:
Make sure the ecobee Thermostat is connected to WiFi
Updating the thermostat means getting the latest firmware version for it. The firmware is a certain type of software that tells the thermostat how to operate, what to show on the screen and how you can interact with it. Updating the firmware can add new features or improve existing ones, and even fix current issues. As long as your ecobee thermostat is connected to WiFi, it will keep updating its own firmware automatically. When a new update is available for the type of thermostat you have, it will be pushed out gradually to all thermostats.
Here's how to find the firmware version running on your thermostat:
Tap the Menu icon on the thermostat screen.
Scroll to the bottom and select About.
Check the Version number.
Compare it to the latest firmware version your ecobee thermostat is supposed to have.
If your ecobee thermostat is not up to date, you will need to contact ecobee support at 1-877-932-6233 to request a firmware upgrade. Have your Serial # ready.
3. Replace the Sensor's Battery
If your sensor's battery is running low or the sensor is not working as intended, it's recommended to replace its battery:
Your ecobee room sensor is powered by a single 3 Volt CR-2032 battery.
If Your Sensor Has a Stand
The stand also acts as the battery cover. While supporting the narrow part of the stand, use a thin tool to remove the battery cover.
Gently unseat the battery from the battery compartment.
Ensure the battery is inserted positive (+) side up as shown here. You will need to gently seat the new battery into place, allowing the metal prongs to hold the battery into place.
Replace the battery cover by snapping it back into place.
If Your Sensor Does Not Have a Stand
Using a thin tool such as a pen, plastic card, or your fingernail, slip the tool into one of the recessed corners of the battery cover.
Remove the battery cover.
Gently unseat the battery from the battery compartment.
Ensure the battery is inserted positive (+) side up as shown here. You will need to gently seat the new battery into place, allowing the metal prongs to hold the battery into place.
Replace the battery cover by snapping it back into place.
4. Reboot the Thermostat
There are two ways to reboot an ecobee thermostat:
Reboot From the Thermostat Itself
Pull the thermostat from its wall mount.
Keep the thermostat powered off for a minute then put it back on the wall.
Allow the thermostat to complete its boot up process.
Reboot From the Breaker Box
At the circuit breaker box, switch off the heating and cooling system.
Keep the thermostat powered off for a minute then switch the breaker back on.
Allow the thermostat to complete its boot up process.
5. Pair the Sensor to the Thermostat
Your ecobee will notify you that it has found a Room Sensor. Tap Yes to proceed with pairing.
Your Sensor will start to pair and a four digit code will appear on your thermostat.
Select a name for your Sensor, then tap Next.
Select when your Sensor will be active, then Tap Next.
Enable or Disable the Smart Home/Away function by tapping the desired setting.
The Smart Home/Away function uses all the sensors connected to your thermostat to detect if anyone is currently home. If, according to your normal schedule, your thermostat believes you should be “home,†but your sensors detect that your home is actually unoccupied, your ecobee thermostat will make adjustments so you aren't unnecessarily heating or cooling an empty home.
Enable or Disable the Follow Me function by tapping the desired setting.
The Follow Me function uses all the sensors connected to your thermostat to intelligently make heating and cooling decisions for the rooms of your home that your sensors detect activity in. If the Follow Me function is disabled, your ecobee thermostat will make heating and cooling decisions based on the average temperatures measured between the sensors in your home.
